A little like a Tardis, this Martinborough home presents a modest footprint of 86m2 that makes for a surprise on entering to discover its new three-bedroom status and wide-open plan living area. The original laundry was more generous than was required and a smart re-plan by Aonui turned it into a much needed third bedroom with great access to the hall and bathroom. Coupled with the enclosure of an unwanted back door porch, the new plan also provided a spacious new cul-de-sac kitchen for this family with two children.
The bespoke timber joinery bench creates a timber themed link to the lounge dining area offering a dramatic improvement in sociability over the previous dividing wall. New French doors and deck complete the makeover in a climate that makes outdoor living the perfect complement for a compact interior.
For the record, the relocated laundry now occupies a former coat cupboard, and the CGI artist owner who was set up in the old laundry now has his own studio in the garden – an NZIA Award-winning design, see www.aonui.co.nz/portfolio/artiststudio.
